I WAS SURPRISED to see the level of ignorance demonstrated by the national papers last week on the topic of longer, heavier vehicles (LHVs).While The limes and Telegraph were reasonably neutral about it, the fact they created a story out of nothing is rather surprising. It wasn't as if there had been a government update— the Dff has long said it is waiting for a desk study before making any decisions on LHVs.
Then The Sun jumped on the bandwagon and made it sound as if LHVs will be coming to a country lane and town centre near you soon, when in fact they are only ever likely to run on motorways and major trunk roads —if they get to run in this country at all. How is anyone ever going to make an informed decision about LHVs if nonsense like this is published?
