'Transport for London has published an 'eligible engines list', enabling older Euro-1 and 2 engines to comply with the London low-emission zone [LEZ following a smoke test and the issue of an LEC (Low Emission Certificate) by Vosa,' he says. "This allows operators to use vehicles in the LEZ without upgrading, replacement engines or particulate filters. We've run some of our older vehicles through this process and saved a fortune.
'Many other operators I speak to have no knowledge of this process as it is not widely publicised, Values of Euro-3 trucks have rocketed recently and are being offered at well above CAP Red Book prices by dealers who state 'this is Euro-3 and LEZ compliant'."
