Android is an operating system used to run many makes of smartphone, such as the Samsung Galaxy, and some tablets. It is owned by Google and has approximately 60% of the UK mobile market. Apps can be downloaded from various locations, the most common being Google Play (formerly called Android Market).
In competition is iOS, the operating system that Apple uses to run iPhones and iPads. The current version is i0S7, and some new apps will not work on very old versions. Apps for iOS can be downloaded from Apple's App Store, either direct from the phone or via iTunes.
