Petrol-tax Inequity.
Mr. Bonar Law, M.P., in the course of a long speech to his Dulwich tonstituents, on Saturday evening last, referred, at some length, to the petrol tax. He said " This point, brought up in the course of the Budget, is, in itself, a very small point, but I am going to discuss it because I think it is a good illustration of the real difference between the present Government and the party to which I belong.
. . The roads are used not only by petrol-propelled vehicles; they are used by steam vehicles also. Anyone who goes about on the country roads knows that great traction engines tear them up far more than do motorcars. At this moment in London there are mechanically propelled motorbuses, some using petrol and some using steam. The effect of this tax is to tax the petrol engine and let the steamer go free. This mode of raising revenue is bad for the motor industry at large, and, especially, is it unfair to London motorbuses."

A regular passenger service is now being maintained, between Mandsville and New Orleans, La., by a number of 30 h.p., White steam buses, the bodies of which have been built specially for the purpose. Each car accommodates 26 passengers.
