TRUCKWORLD, the popular truck park in West Thurrock, Essex, will close for the last time on the morning of 28 July so that the land can be redeveloped for warehousing.
The site is used by hundreds of LGV drivers every day because of its proximity to the M25, M2 and the M20, but the landowner has decided to make the most of the land's value for building development (CM25 May).
The closure will exacerbate the shortage of places to park up in the South-East.
lain Jones, Truckworld senior manager, says the fast overnight parking date will be 27 July. The closure will affect 30 staff involved in security, catering and administration.
He adds: "It's been upsetting for quite a number of people. The industry hasn't been particularly happyabout it, but the support we've had really is phenomenal. Driver support has been wonderful, particularly from some of the regulars. It's the number-one topic here among the drivers following CM 's story."
