RENOWNED site vehicle manufacturer JCB — for years the bane of agricultural hauliers with its on/ off-road Fastrac range — has ventured into the truck market.
The firm has launched its High Mobility Utility Vehicle (HMUV), an on/off-road truck designed for the military market.
The HM U V continues the evo lution of a family of specialist vehicles with which JCB will, for the first time, offer a British-built competitor to foreign-made on/ off-road personnel and equipment carriers such as the Duro and the DaimlerChrysler Unimog.
The HMUV features a forwardcontrol two-man cab with a onepiece windscreen. It has a 2.92m wheelbase and is powered by a 6.7-litre Cummins ISB-e engine driving through a Powershift transmission to provide a road speed of 110km/h with similar cross-country performance.
In its pre-production form. as pictured. a short platform is fitted with a capacity of four tonnes but other versions will follow.
