VJEHICLES bringing goods to Merseyside docks side docks for loading into outwardbound steamers, are still subject to delays in the docks area. Recently, the North-Western Licensing Authority made an investigation, but the position has deteriorated further.
So serious have the losses become, that a suggestion has been made that owners of delayed vehicles should charge demurrage. Mr. R. B. Stockdale, who presided at the recent meeting of the road transport section of the Liverpool Chamber of Commerce, stated that there was no regulation to prevent an operator from charging demurrage.
It was decided to refer the suggestion to the local area committee of the Road Haulage Association, with a hint that it be brought to the notice of members of the Association.
