ON Wednesday last; Mr. A. Barnes, Minister of Transport, performed the inauguration ceremony to mark the start of the £5,000,000 project represented in the new Tyne tunnel. The scheme has been under discussion for 25 years.
One of its primary objects will be to by-pass the built-up areas of Newcastle and Gateshead. it is expected that the whole project will not be completed for at least five years.
