• Seddon Atkinson has dropped the 411 8 x 4 chassis from its latest rigid model lineup, leaving the Ctunmins LTA 10-290 powered 311 as its only 8x4 truck.
Only 15% of the Seddon Atkinson eight-wheelers registered in the UK last year were from the 401/411 range, and the Oldham-based manufacturer says that such a low demand does not justify keeping the heavier, morepowerful eight-wheeler in production, although a spokesman for the company says: "If we had an order for 50 we might think again."
This revision to the Seddon Atkinson line-up, with the latest changes in other manufacturers' ranges, is detailed in a batch of specifications issued by Truckspec of Wallington, Surrey, which produces a comprehensive, computerbased guide to UK truck specifications.
Other significant changes outlined in the Truckspec update include power steering becoming standard on Mercedes-Benz 609, 709 and 811 models; the deletion from Volvo's range of FL7 and FL10 rear-steer tractive units, the F12 27 6x4 tractive unit and the B-ride 6x4 tractive unit with the introduction of the Bride 6x4 tipper chassis; and a completely revised Renault G range (Commando) with individual model designation for every power option (all Perkins engines).
