THE decision on an application by an Aberdeen haulier to transfer 11 vehicles from B to A licence was deferred by the Scottish deputy Licensing Authority, Mr, A. B. Birnie, at Aberdeen on Wednesday, so that he could give it full consideration.
The applicants, J. G. Barrack Ltd., originally sought a user "General goods mainly within 60 miles of operating centre", but at the start of the case. upon hearing that the company had amended the proposed user by the deletion of the word "mainly ", British Road Services Ltd., one of the objectors, withdrew. British Railways, however, maintained its objection.
Giving evidence, Mr. J. G. Barrack. managing director of the applicant company, said that the main reason for the requested change was flexibility. Being tied to a 60-mile radius presented difficulties and very often he found he had a small load which he could have carried on an A licence. Most of the work concerned traffic from Aberdeen harbour on short-wheelbase tippers. He could not compete in any way with British Railways.
