• Transamerica Leasing is launching an offensive on the UK trailer leasing and rental market with plans to open three more branch offices around the country by the end of the year.
The company already offers 5,000 trailers from five branches in England and Scotland and will open a Bristol office this month, followed by another two in East Anglia and South Yorkshire by the end of 1997. Vice president for business development Andrew Atkins says Transamerica will also add 1,000 trailers to its UK fleet.
The branch extension is part of Transamerica's rapid expansion programme in Europe. Since 1989 the company has built a fleet of more than 11,000 across the Continent and is opening offices in Germany, Sweden, Finland and Denmark.
A joint venture between Transamerica Corp and NatWest subsidiary Lombard, Transamerica Leasing has 15% of the UK trailer rental and leasing market, compared to TIP's 39% and the 29% slice taken by CTR. But Atkins says Transamerica can close the gap by offering customers newer trailers and niche leasing products.
El Central Trailer Rentco is stepping up its plans to expand operations throughout the country. Aberdeen-based Sandy Bruce Trucking has become the first network partner in Scotland offering CTR trailers. in Managing director Sandy Bruce says: "We look after the fleet, the administration and the cleaning. c-rR still controls the sales,"
