SCOTTISH TANKER drivers are to take industrial action from 7 May following rejection of a 5.4% pay deal.
The 35 Transport & General Workers Union drivers work for Gleaner Oils and Shell Direct. They will strike on 7, 10, 21 and 24 May; an overtime ban will start on 7 May and will continue until the dispute ends.
The drivers had been offered 4.2% backdated until 1 October with a further 1.2% from 1 March. Pat Rafferty of the T&G's Glas
gow office says: "The problem is that the deal is not generous compared with what some of the guys' colleagues are getting.
"I've just settled another pay deal which has come in at just over £9 an hour; that's what we're hoping for in this dispute. At the moment they are getting just £8.35 an hour."
Rafferty is in touch with the employers and the arbitration service ACAS. He hopes to meet the employers again soon in a bid to end the dispute.
