STAFFORDSHIRE POLICE are hunting a gang who kidnapped a truck driver at gunpoint and stole his £15,000 load of electrical goods in Stoke-on-Trent.
The Powerhouse driver had pulled into a lay-by on the eastbound carriageway of the A5 near the Muckley Corner Hotel in Lichfield at about 4pm last Wednesday (28 April) when a white Mercedes Sprinter pulled in front of the truck and three men got out. They forced him into the back of the van at gunpoint. It was driven southbound along the A5 towards Tamworth and
then to a warehouse where he was tied up with electrical cable. The van was then dumped by the roadside in Kettering — it was 23 hours before the driver was released.
One of the attackers is described as Asian, in his early 30s, slim and clean shaven. The other two men are white; one is aged about 25, slim and 6ft tall. All three spoke with Midlands accents.
The truck was found minus its load of washing machines and cookers in Chemical Lane,Middleport.
