The council remains confident that the work already done on its bid can simply be transferred into a new Urban Challenge Fund, but Page admits that right now it just has to wait. "Elections do delay decision making, that's a fact of democratic life," he says.
"A new government would like an opportunity to review the proposals and therefore that might delay bidding rules and bidding guidance for some months."
If hopes are raised that RBC might knock the idea on the head, Page is adamant an LEZ will eventually come to Reading: We are committed to looking at progressing a new bid under whatever mechanism is available and under whatever government is in place."
