Nicholls has recently increased its small, back-office staff and is not afraid to innovate, constantly updating software. To meet the demands of corporate customers, it employs an Orchestrator web-based traffic management system and Mix Telematics, providing KPI reporting, e-invoicing and a web-based POD portal. GPS satellite positioning and real-time information displayed on large screens is, these days, taken for granted.
"Customers increasingly not only expect their haulier to shift goods within stringent parameters, but also do much of the administrative reporting tasks," says Paul Nicholls. You provide all the information, you give dates for delivery and collection deadlines."
His wife Maggie addresses health and safety issues, including IOSH working safety qualifications. The firm is undertaking Driver CPC training to ensure compliance before 2014, and offers optional NVO qualifications in a dedicated training room using two in-house trainers and an accredited assessor.
