New Road Haulage Organization.— The Minister of War Transport met the members of the Standing Joint Committee and the Road Haulage (Operations) Advisory Committee on Monday, November 2, and outlined the Government's plans for the establishment of the new road haulage organization, details of which have now been announced.
Lost Journeys and Detention Charges.—Hauliers are asked to note that claims for lost journeys or detention can be considered by the Ministry only if they be supported by the fullest possible information, properly endorsed by responsible parties at the collection or delivery points. If a lost journey
be incurred the delivery note should be endorsed at the collection point, 'explaining in brief detail why the goods were not available. In the case of claims for detention, the time of arrival and departure at both the collection and delivery points should be endorsed on the back of the receipt notes. It is not sufficient to send in a covering letter with such claims, merely stating the details unsupported by evidence
Preston Local Offieb.—Traffic will now be accepted, on behalf of the area office, at a new local otfice which was opened on Monday, November 2, at 224, West Strand, Preston (Tel. No. Preston 6779), with a traffic movement officer in charge.
Cargo.—The meat and general cargo moved under the scheme in the week ended October 16 totalled 185,300 tons, In the previous week the total was 191,800 tons.
