PETER LAZARUS, (below) the Department of Transport's new Permanent Secretary, takes over the top civil service job in his division of Marsham Street next week, following the retirement of Sir Peter Baldwin.
Mr Lazarus, who is 56, has been DTp Deputy Secretary since 1976. He was educated at Westminster School and Wadham College, Oxford, and first joined the Civil Service in the Ministry of Transport in 1949. *see Guess, Minister p44.
A SEDDON ATKINSON spokesman confirmed this week that the company has spoken with ENASA, the Spanish parent of PagesĀ°, among other businesses interested in buying SWdon from International Harvester.
The ENASA link was revealed in a press report last week, but the spokesman refused to be drawn further on the matter, saying that press speculation harmed customers' confidence in the company.
