THE ROAD Haulage Association (RHA) is calling for an apology from the BBC after Top Gear's Jeremy Clarkson (right) cracked a joke about truck drivers killing prostitutes on Sunday
As the presenter was driving a Renault Magnum on the show, he said: "This is a hard job, and I'm not just saying that to win favour with lorry drivers; it's a hard job. Change gear, change gear, change gear, check mirror, murder a prostitute, change gear, change gear, murder..."
I -lead of communications at the RHA Kate Gibbs says the RHA has sent a letter to BBC director general Mark Thompson calling g for an apology.
k' Meanwhile, Bob Monks, general
secretary of the United Road Transport Union (URTU), says: "Clarkson's off-the-cuff attempt at humour is offensive to professional drivers who work hard for such a small financial reward."
A lbp Gear spokeswoman tells CM: "This reference was used to comically exaggerate and make ridiculous an urban myth about the world of lorry driving, and was not intended to cause offence."
