Northern Commercials moves Fiat Van Centre to Brighouse
YORKSHIRE-BASED Iveco and Fiat dealership Northern Commercials has relocated its Fiat Van Centre to Brighouse after the lease expired at Leeds.
It opened the Leeds site at Geldred Road in 2007 (CM 12 April 2007), which coincided with the launch of the fourth-generation of the Iveco Daily van. The new site, on Armytage Road, is next to the main Northern Commercials dealership.
Fiat sales specialist Ian Henson said the move means it can beneit from having a major servicing centre at its disposal.
The complete Fiat range, Fiorino, Doblb Cargo Van, Scudo and Ducato panel and dropsided vans, are on sale. “We have about 30 new vans on site with 15 used vans, and Northern Commercials used trucks,” he said.
• Borrowing to inance used van purchases remains a major talking point, but securing funding hasn’t been an issue, said Henson. “At the moment, there is a 4% lat rate for borrowing. A lot of used van buyers are taking advantage of VAT deposit-only deals with the balance borrowed,” he said.
It is at odds with repeated news stories about banks not lending to small businesses.
“Of the last 30 deals we have struck, 15 have had inance. It is mainly for hire purchase and inance lease deals, with less going for contract hire,” he said.
Prices for used vans remain strong because there are not so many good used ones around, he added: “When you get a good one, you get a premium for it.” The new van market is not as buoyant as before, he said, but there are signs it is recovering.
“We have done well, registering 80 new Fiats – it’s starting to pick up,” he said.
