THERE WERE SEVERAL debutantes on the lsuzu stand with the European launch of the redesigned N Series and the introduction of the Easy Shift manual/ automated gearbox.
The N Series facelift is intended to create a sleeker look; it includes new headlamps with polycarbonate lenses, though the size of the cab doesn't change. The NPR 6.2-tonner boasts a new 5.2-litre 150hp common-rail unit driving through a five-speed manual box; the NQR 7.5-tonner is also available with a 175hp lump and a six speed manual box. Both models have the option of the company's new automated gearbox.
Heralded as "a manual gearbox that thinks it's an automatic" the five-speed overdrive NEES2 (New Eco-friendly Easy Shift) comes with automated shift and manual change capability.
There is no clutch plate; instead the system uses a wet clutch with a fluid coupling that allows the vehicle to 'creep', aiding take-off lsuzu claims it offers better fuel economy than conventional automatics and is cheaper to make.
