A WAVE OF INFORMAL meetings between HGV drivers and the police to discuss legislative issues and general concerns will take place across the country this week, under a cloud of uncertainty over the initiative’s future.
The drop-in meetings, part of Operation Stammtisch launched two years ago following a successful pilot, enable police officers to engage with drivers and answer their questions on current legislation.
Sergeant Richard Golding at the Met Police says it has 26 Constabularies involved in Stammtisch now, but concerns over resources could put that figure in jeop ardy. “There’s no direct funding, it’s all down to the good will of individual senior officers,” he says.
