A Matchbox Magirus Deutz crane-lorry bought for 2s 6d in 1961 has been sold at auction for a world record 27,475.
The truck, in mint condition and its original box, was a rarity as just a few were made in trial colours of light brown with a red jib. it was sold to a German collector by Middlesbrough auctioneer Vectis.
Although this is a world record for a Matchbox toy it is still some way off the top price paid for a Dinky model, when a 1930 Bentalls delivery van fetched 212,650. All of which news saw The Hawk frantically rummaging through his modest collection. Suffice to say he won't be retiring just yet.
