• The Albany Engineering Co. Ltd. announces the introduction of a new range of cargo pumps for tankers. The units are derivatives of the company's SB range and are notable for their extreme simplicity of operation. They are designed so that they do not need synchronizing gears, the idling rotor being rotated by the lobes of the driven unit.
The new models are designated SBL and are produced in three sizes: No. 2 having 2;ln. BSP connections, No. 3 having 3in. BSP connections and No. 4 having 4in. BSP connections. Although the units revolve at only 750 rpm they have outputs of 4,500gal per hr, 7,000gal per hr and 10,200gal per hr respectively.
Along with a simple internal bearing design, the low operating speeds result in little maintenance being required. Where maintenance is required the pumps are easily stripped and reassembled.
The SBL.2 costs £106, the SBL.3 £116 and the SBL.4 €145, all these prices being exclusive of pressure relief valves which can be fitted as an optional extra.
Albany offers several material specifications, each unit can be made to order having light-alloy body with cast-iron rotors, or bronze body with steel shafts and bronze rotors or with a stainless-steel body and bronze rotors.
When supplied in cast-iron the SBL.2 weighs 751b, the SBL.3 95Ib and the SBL.4 130Ib,
