Southampton-based plant hauller hose truck was so overloaded that it as too heavy for the nearest weighridge has been ordered to pay more an .2500 in fines and costs. Patrick Duffy, trading as PJD Transport, pleaded guilty at Southampton Magistrates' Court to exceeding the permitted train weight of a 38-tonne artic by more than 12 tonnes.
Prosecuting for the VI, Terry Skiba told the court that Duffy's three-axle Scania coupled to a three-axle mobile crusher had been seen by a traffic examiner in Eastleigh, Hants. It was not displaying STGO plates and was directed to the nearest weighbridge, The truck was found to be so heavy that the weighbridge display read over range', said Skiba.
Enquiries revealed that the authorities had not been notified of the movement, he added, and the vehicle was issued with an immediate prohibition.
Asked why it had not been possible to ascertain the exact weight of the vehicle, Skiba said there were no weighbrAges in the area capable of weighing a load of that size.
In his defence, Duffy said the total weight combination was 51 tonnes and, as soon as the vehicle received its prohibition, he notified the authorities of the movement and taxed the truck at the special types rate. The prohibition was lifted and the vehicle allowed to proceed.
Duffy was fined 2450 and ordered to pay .280 costs. The driver, Jason King, was fined £145 and ordered to pay 225 costs.
