LAURIE DEALER'S top used truck this week has green credentials: it's a Volvo FL240 18-tonner with an aerodynamic curtainsided body. It has a Euro-5 240hp engine with a six-speed manual transmission and a day-cab. The bodywork is 8.7m-long, with barn-doors at the rear and a 1.5-tonne tuckaway tail-lift. It's built by Lancashirebased Fosters Commercials, the commercial division of HB Panelcraft.
It's a 62-plate, and has 7,800km on the clock. Its vendor, FleetEx, is asking for £47,950 (plus VAT).
Other 18-tonners like this one appear in the used truck market in low but steady numbers, which helps maintain impressive residual values. Occasionally, a huge de-fleet will create something of a feeding frenzy for buyers, which helps relieve the pressures of excessive demand.
What is more unusual is the aerodynamic body, a rarity in the used sector, and there has been much debate about whether it will generate a premium over traditional rectangular-shaped bodies. Only time will tell.
