service with the Tyne and Wear PTE. The 79 seaters with two doors are destined for Newcastle.
Sunderland is to benefit from the acquisition of 30 Atlanteans with Willowbrook bodies, delivery of which is to commence early this month.
100 Metropolitans
Later, a further 100 Metropolitans will be delivered for the Newcastle services and, early in the summer, the PTE will take delivery of 40 Daimler Fleetline vehicles for Sunderland. The PTE has specified nearside staircases for the vehicles. This style is identical to that originated by the former Newcastle Corporation undertaking, and which has been perpetuated by the PTE on all two-door vehicles.
Standard livery
A new standard livery has been chosen for PTE vehicles. This is yellow and white with a blue line-out, and wheel hubs to replace the existing yellow and cream with maroon lineout and wheel hubs.
All the new vehicles will be painted in the new livery and existing vehicles will be progressively repainted.
