AN in-cab heating system using engine oil as a heat source has been developed by Magirus Deutz.
Capable of warming the cab interior to 20°C (68°F) when the outside temperature is —20°C (-4°F) the new Magirus heater uses an additional oil pump situated in the engine sump.
This extra pump circulates the warm oil into the heater unit with a maximum flow rate of 30 litres/min (6.6gpm).
A thermostat is fitted in the engine lubricating circuit which allows the oil to by-pass the oil cooler when the engine is cold.
The air cooled Deutz F8L413 engine has also been fitted with pistons which increase the heat transfer to the engine oil, which in turn improves the heater's efficiency.
