Iveco Trucks provided a Stabs AT450 6x2 tractor and a box trailer to perform the test. The Michelin tyres on the tractor unit were 315/80R22.5 tyres, with the front two steering axles sharing the X2A2+ Energy tyres, the drive axle fitted with XDA2+ Energy.
On the trailer were 385/65R22.5 XTA2+ Energy tyres. The rubber was adjusted to the correct pressure [see sidebar] and the vehicle was weighed off at 43,340kg without a driver and co-pilot. After 30 minutes

of continuous running to build up sufficient temperature in the tyres, we completed 15 laps of the twomile circuit, five at 64km/h, five at 80km/h and five at 90km/h.
We then brought the vehicle in and deflated each tyre by 15% before completing another warm-up session and another 15 laps at the three respective speeds.
