Eight of the haulier's trailers have been damaged by the fires, which the fire service is treating with suspicion. Chris Tindall reports.
FIRE INVESTIGATORS are looking into three blazes which ravaged a haulage company's fleet of trailers in the space of 36 hours.
The Leyland, Lanes depot of Sawdust contractor Whitfire Shavings was hit by three fires over the weekend of 19-20 May.A total of nine fire appliances were called in to tackle the blazes but no one was injured.
The first fire was spotted at 4.45pm on the Saturday; it damaged one trailer. Two more fires one early on Sunday morning, the other later in the day damaged another seven semi-trailers and part of the depot's roof.
Lancashire CID is treating the fires as accidental, but a Ban-11)er Bridge fire service spokesman says:"The first was attributed to an accidental fire: some rubbish set alight and spread to a trailer. The second one we have our doubts about and an investigation is still going on. The third is down as deliberate.
"It's speculation on my part but I would imagine that having to go back within 24 hours to something they first thought wasn't deliberate -and then go back again-they will question whether the first one was accidental.
If it's the same group responsible, they are cocky and arrogant.
He denies haulage companies in the county are being targeted in arson attacks, but says: "Across Lancashire there are certain issues that arise to do with access and security of sites."
