Renault is one of only two manufacturers to supply a narrow-track vehicle, with its Puncher low-entry cab and chassis. "We recognise that it takes time putting our name into the frame," says Darren Brown, product manager at Renault Trucks.
The key benefit is that we're the only make other than Dennis that can offer a narrow-track refuse vehicle."
The Puncher is offered with a standard-width chassis as a 4x2 at 18 tonnes and as a standard or narrow-track 6x2 with rearsteer at 26 tonnes.
"There's less demand for vehicles to use landfill sitesmore waste is going to waste transfer stations," Brown reports. The trend across Europe is towards 6x2s with low-entry cabs, he adds, but demand for 6x4s in the UK is such that Renault has not ruled out a version of the Puncher in this configuration.
The Puncher cab takes a driver plus three and is available with Allison automatic transmissions. Euro-4 engines will be available "within weeks", Brown concludes.
