rAN time recorders be trusted to give
an accurate record of what a vehicle has done each day? This question was debated by York magistrates, on Monday, after evidence had been given by Mr. A. H. Lee, district sales manager of Servis Recorders, Ltd., who explained what he believed had happened to a lorry belonging to Hammonds United Breweries, Ltd.. Bradford.
The company were accused of allowing the vehicle to be used with an inefficient brake., and one of their drivers was summoned for using the vehicle. Both pleaded not guilty, For the prosecution, Supt. W. B. Martin Scott said three youngsters saw the lorry parked near a brewery store. Suddenly it began to move down the incline and ran into a house wall 50 yd. away.
Mr. Lee claimed that from the vehicle's recorder chart he could tell that the engine had been started up two minutes before it rolled down the incline. Mr. C. W. Nelson, defending, put forward the theory that a third party had started the engine.
The magistrates dismissed both cases.
