• Foreign registered vehicles carrying out internal haulage in the UK under the cabotage rules will have to leave the country every month.
This is designed to halt the activities of a small number of UK hauliers who have lost their UK Operator's Licences but set up in another EU country and carried on operating as if they were still registered in the UK.
The Vehicle Inspectorate will enforce the new rule, checking foreign drivers' arrival dates at roadside checks.
• The Road Haulage Association is warning interna tional operators who carry alcohol from Spain that bogus drugs enforcement officers have been approaching drivers in truck stops.
They demand to see all documentation including the driver's wallet; when the wallet is returned, it is minus the cash.
