Since losing vehicle manufacturing to iveco's Madrid assembly plant the firm has had to revise its strategy— now its ready to prove that it's more than a niche market player.
Kevin Crowder, national sales manager, says: "What we do have is strong and we will be going back to tipper, mixer and fuel-oil/tanker customers. I want to get away from the Idea that Seddon Atkinson is only a refuse truck manufacturer."
After (inlaying strong sales with Its previous Cummins C Series-powered lightweight 6x4 mixer chassis, SA is now re-launching it with a choice of !veal Tooter and Cummins ISC engines.
The three-axle chassis has the narrow cab from Ivaco's 18-tonne EuroCargo.
In line with Its policy of offering Irmo engines along side proprietary Cummins products, Seddon's Euro-3 6x4s and 8x4s will be available with Cursor Band Cummins ISM engines with ratings from 310420hp. However. the Cummins engines are expected to carry a significant premium. Tipper operators will be able to choose two or four-spring steel or rubber suspension, Although Seddon's eightloggers will now be built In Spain, Crowder confirms that they retain the 'UK-spec' chassis which is lighter than the equivalent Ivaco EuroTrakker.
"The lighter frame helps us save around a tonne on the kerbweight compared with the EuroTrakker," he explains, "We'll be targeting our 8x4 at sand, gravel and aggregate operators, whereas EuroTrakker is more for heavyduty muckaway."
