Clash of the Titan vs locals
THE ONLY DEDICATED truck park in Thurrock is on the verge of being closed down after it emerged the site has never had planning permission to operate.
The Titan lorry park has been open for four years, but a local campaign has successfully convinced a planning committee that it should be closed down for unauthorised use.
Thurrock Council says it has given the 200-space truckstop 21 days to provide it with information about its ownership and then an enforcement notice will be served to stop it trading.
Chrys Rampley, infrastructure manager at the Road Haulage Association, says at least three of its members use the site as an operating centre and that, even if it remained open. Thurrock needs at least another 100 overnight lorry parking spaces.
She adds: -We are not pleased at the way that Thurrock Council is handling the whole situation; they are burying their heads in the sand. If they could displace it to the next county, then they would."
