AWELSHPOOL, POWYS-BASED Speed (The Complete Carrier) wants authorisation to run 10 vehicles and eight trailers at a new operating centre on the Henfacs Lane industrial estate in the town.
The Palletways member, formerly called Speed Distribution, has invested .£40,000 in the 30,000ft= site on a seven-year lease.
It is due to become operational this month and will run alongside the firm's existing facility in Severn Road,Welshpool.The warehouse at the new site will accommodate the extra volumes the firm has gained following a management buyout in April.
Speed (The Complete Carrier) recently signed a 12-month deal with Norbert Dentressangle (ND) to trunk goods in Llandrindod Wells and Shrewsbury to and from ND's Birmingham hub. Phil Edwards, MD at the company, who jointly purchased it with partner Nigel Jones in April. tells CM: "We are in a number of negotiations to form more partnerships with large hauliers, because we have the resources to operate for them in a costeffective way."
