LEYLAND Bus remains relatively confident of securing A major bus order from the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority despite press reports that the potential £385 million deal is meeting strong opposition from the Thai Ministry of Finance.
Leyland, in a consortium with the National Bus Company and MVA consultancies, were chosen by the Transit Authority in May to supply up to 4,000 new buses for the capital, together with back-up services and route restructuring.
Since then the deal has been waiting for Thai government approval. It undoubtedly has its opponents and its advocates in the complex Thai political circles.
A Leyland Bus spokesman told CM that while the company remained hopeful that it would secure the major order it was not basing its future planning around it.
