▪ Steno Sealink is to start a freight-only route between Holyhead and Dublin from November. A high-speed super-ferry will first sail on the route in March next year.
• Lex Transfleet, the spot hire and rental company, is expanding its fleet with 45 new MAN F2000 tractor units. The cost is almost 23 million.
• Nightfreight announced this week the take over of warehousing and transport firm Basildon-based Hay Pollock for £1 .225m. HP also operates out of Manchester, Runcorn, Walsall, Hull, Middlesborough and Felixstowe.
• Daf Trucks has posted profits of NLG 72.6m (£27.9m) for the first half of 1995, almost double that for the same period last year. Turnover is up 42% to NLG 1,316.4m (£506m).
• The Transport and General Workers Union has set up a £1m :,trike fund to pay for disputes with employers who refuse to pay a minimum 24 an hour wage. The fund could also be designed to entrench the TGWU's PA an hour minimum wage in the face of opposition from Labour and the TUC.
• Year-on-year profits at Boughey Distribution rose 20% to £2.4m through improved efficiency despite heavy pressure on rates. Now it is investing in costsaving information technology for its grocer customers.
