Renault's contender in the 17tonne market comes with a -hoice of 157kW (210hp) or : 2kW (230hp) engines nestling under the G-Range day cab.
While they have not been very strong sellers, 17-tonne Renaults can be seen in many local authority fleets, which could be through the historic links the authorities had with Dodge.
The subject of this month's Workshop Ways is one such vehicle. Destined for a local authority and fitted with a Whale gully-emptying tanker, it was in Renault Reading's workshop for a PD!. However, to accommodate our needs it received a 13 service.
There are three levels of service (A, B and C) with standard times, excluding inspection, of A; 1 hour, B; 23 hours and C: 6.5 hours.
Service intervals and sequencing is determined by the type of work and the oil used. A vehicle on motorway work filled with SE-IPD type oil can go for 30,000km between drains with the A service suspended. However, with lower grade oil and stop/start urban work this drops to 5,000km.
Steve Rush, who carried out the service, is a Renault enthusiast and transferred dealerships to stay with the marque.
Parts prices (retail ex-VAT) are: oil filter, £1426: fuel filter, £6.42: sump plug seal. £0.79.
