Nightowl creditors can expect payment within weeks say administrators. Jennifer Ball reports.
CREDITORS OF beleaguered truckstop operator Nightowl will be paid within the next few weeks, according to administrators Chantrey Vellacott.
The move comes after 76% of creditors agreed to a Creditors Voluntary Arrangement (CVA). This allows the company to keep trading and preserves 200 jobs (CM 19 February).
David Oprey of Chantrey Vellacott says: "The company is now in control of its own trading and things are going swimmingly. The creditors' money has been put into a pool and will be distributed within weeks." But Barrie Tozer, the driver behind the Truckersmoan.co.uk
website who has been campaigning doggedly for improvements at truckstops, says that drivers are still dissatisfied with Nightowl: "Drivers say the food is terrible — most of it is microwaved and they have lengthy waits to be served. There is also no fuel at its sites."
When CM visited the Rugby truckstop it found that there was still no fuel available. However, staff at Alconbury say its pumps are operating as normal.
The UK's biggest truckstop operator called in administrators just three days before Christmas, making about 30 people redundant (CM 1 January).
As CM went to press Nightowl was unavailable for comment.
