• Hexham (Northumberland) rural council has offered an increased subsidy of E130 to Rochester and Marshall Ltd., bus owners, towards the cost of maintaining the Hexham-Blanchland bus service for another six months. The council has suggested that the firm raises its fares on the route. Previously the council had offered a £100 subsidy.
The council recently sent a petition with 96 names urging the company to retain the service between Hexham and Hallington, but the firm claimed that three-quarters of the signatories rarely used the service. Hexham and Weardale rural councils are also in touch with the Venture Bus Co., Consett, over the possible closure of the Shotley Bridge, .Blanchland, Townfield service.
