Bus Chassis Needed in South Africa.
Ells Majesty's Trade Commissioner at Durban reports that the East London municipality is calling for tenders, which have to be presented in South Africa by January 31, 1934, for the supply of 10 or 20 30-seater chassis propelled by either petrol or oil engines. Those concerns in a position to offer products of United Kingdom manufacture may obtain further particulars from the Department of Overseas Trade, 35, Old Queen Street, London, S.W.1, reference GY13198 being quoted.
More Traffic on Lambeth Bridge.
Increasing use is being made of Lambeth Bridge, according to statistics supplied to the London County Council. A census was taken on October 21, 1932, three months after its opening, when the following results so far as commercial vehicles were concerned, were obtained .:—Bases, 551; coaches, 29; taxicabs, 409; goods motors, 2,139. On November 10 last another census was taken, when 612 buses, 263 coaches, 479 taxicabs and 3,018 goods motors crossed the bridge in 12 hours.
The total increase in traffic from the Westminster to Lambeth side of the river was 43 per cent, and in the reverse direction 30 per cent.
Cardiff and Advertising Vehicles, Cardiff City Council is now to enforce the Order, made under the Town Police Clauses Act, 1847, for facilitating traffic in the city business area. Vehicles used exclusively or principally for advertisement purposes may not be "driven or propelled" through any of the streets in the schedule between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m., and the drivers of express or stage carriages, or goods vehicles, must not "loiter" in such streets.
Unilateral Parking in Lancaster.
Lancaster Corporation is applying to the Ministry of Transport for an Order under Section 46 of the Road Traffic Act, 1930, for the establishment of unilateral parking in three streets in the centre of the town, the period of waiting to be restricted to 20 mins. at a time.
