D A prediction that public transport would ;oon be provided free and paid for out of he rates was made this week at the Town md Country Planning Association's national ;onference in London. Mr F. Pooley, county irchitect for Buckinghamshire, said: "We thall live to see this day."
He said that local government would lave an unparalleled opportunity to grasp he initiative after its reorganization in 1974. If that initiative was used, said Mr Pooley, the way land was developed could be transformed.
Mr Pooley added that any new development of local or regional significance must be related to a system of free transport that would win people away from cars and allow efficient train and bus services to develop.
