A folding kingpin, constructed so that it can be positively locked in either the operating or folded position, has been introduced by lntertruck.
The pin swings sideways across the trailer so that loads are applied directly to the cast-steel body rather than to the locking mechanism. Locking is achieved by an arm which traps the kingpin against the housing.
The locking arm is in turn retained in position by a spring-loaded release lever and pin, which incorporates a baulking feature to prevent the lever from being swung out of sight into its locked position unless the pin is firmly engaged in its locking hole.
