• British truck maker ERF issued a profits warning this week that knocked 60 pence off its share price. The company also announced plans for "restructuring" its South African operations. (See News Analysis page 19).
• The new EU-Russia Interim Trade Agreement coming into force this week should give exporters better access to Russian markets, particularly in exporting cars and alcohol.
• Eurotunnel's Le-Shuttle Freight service has more than doubled the number of lorries carried compared to a year ago. January 1996 figures show 45,763 trucks used the service against 20,739 in January 1995. January 96 traffic was also up 10% from December 1995.
• Figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders show sales of trucks and artics fell by 18% to 1,603 in Janaury compared to the same month last year.
• Emery, the international freight forwarder and logistics company, reported record profits of £54.5m for 1995, up 5.3% on the previous year. Turnover also rose from £lion to £1.2bn.
• Waste Management International has announced "disappointing" 1995 figures which show profits decreased by 7.6% to £165m from £178.6m in 1994, on an increased turnover of 5.8%.
Secretary of State for Scotland Michael Forsyth has unveiled a 2500,000 plan to develop ferry terminals in Orkney—part of a Cl 30m investment package for the Highlands and Islands of Scotland.
