DHL IS THE first company in the UK to complete a sustainability report on its operations using guidelines for the logistics andtransportsectorsetout by the Global Reporting Initiative (G RI).
A DHL spokesperson explains: "It is best practice to use this kind of reporting guideline since it ensures consistency in the data published by similar companies and provides the user with access to comparable data.
"Companies that use this kind of guideline meet a minimum standard in transparent reporting and are able to produce a report that is a balanced and fair representation of the organisation's economic, environmental and social performance. It is similar to financial reporting guidelines but for sustainability issues."
DHL chief executive Chris Muntwyler adds: "During my career it has become increasingly clear that for a business to be successful it must consider more than just the financial bottom line." The report includes information on managing health and safety, the impact of climate change from air and road transport, the handling of hazardous goods, road safety and managing noise in local communities.
