MAN dealers, Borderman Trucks Ltd, have supplied the first MAN16.280 tractive unit to go into serviCe in the UK. It will be used by owner/driver K. Stalker, of Penrith, for long-distance work carrying slag, coke and lime.
The turbocharged 11 litre (671cuin) engine develops 209kW (280bhp) at 2,200rpm with a maximum torque of 1,030Nm (7601bft) at 1,500rpm.
First shown in prototype form at Earls Court, last year, the turbocharged 44-tonne (43.3 ton)MAN has been available to customers for the last two months.
Power is transmitted to the MAN hub reduction through a 420mm (16.5in) single-dry-plate clutch and a 13-speed Fuller gearbox.
