Writing in the French magazine Transport Info. Francois Goulard, the head of the French dangerous goods transport association ATMD warns: -Our European neighbours are [already] beyond this limit and take our work."
He says the French Transport Secretary has responded favourably to ATMD's overtures. A move to 44 tonnes would benefit UK international operators as it would bring French weight limits in line with those in the UK. enabling more efficient international running.

Jean-Pascal Demonchy, transport director at French operator C'havigny, says the firm has tried to pass the costs on, but not all its customers will accept the rise. "What surprises me the most is that so few hauliers try to raise their prices," he concludes.
