EVIDENCE the effect on the cost La of living of the increase of 41d. per gallon in the tax on fuel, has been collected from many trades by the British Road Federation, and is being put before Members of Parliament.
Caterers, bakers, grocers, butchers, sand and ballast merchants, builders. coal merchants, petroleum distributors, drapers, hardware factors, furniture removers, multiple shops, hauliers, laundry engineers, motor manufacturers and traders, and wholesale textile merchants have all testified to the damaging effect of the new imposition.
The National Federation of Grocers and Provision Dealers Associations and the National Federation of Wholesale Grocers' and Provision Merchants' Associations say that the higher tax will increase transport costs by about 5per cent. -The Federation of Hardware Factors places the figure at about 4 per cent.
