THE PRIVATISED Immingham ro/ro terminal is being developed to cope with 2.5m tonnes of cargo each year.
The Exxtor Group, which has the 50 acre east coast terminal on long lease from Associated British Ports, is adding more land and equipment to boost capacity.
The first phase of the development has added five acres for trailer marshalling which will allow 700 trailers to be handled a day.
Also Exxtor is buying six more terminal tractors and new 32.5 and 42 tonne heavy forward lift trucks. This will bring the total tractor and lift truck fleets up to 26 and 18 units respectively.
Last year over 2m tonnes of mixed freight and 50,000 cars went through Immingham, and Exxtor expects higher demand this year.
