UNITED Transport Distribution has opened a new two acre distribution centre in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire.
Business from the centre began in March. At present it is handling business for Lyons Tetley and General Foods, the maker of the Maxviell House and Birds brands.
The 22-vehicle depot, which has a 40,000sqft warehouse, is serying the area south-east of a line from the Wash to Southampton.
UTD's director Gordon Evans said: "Scope for expan sion in the South-East is almost unlimited."
It is hoped that up to 80 jobs will be created when the centre is working at full capacity — at present about 40 have been made available.
UTD, part of the BET Group, also operates six depots at Glasgow, Grangemouth, Manchester, Wakefield, Leicester and Wolverhampton. The new depot is part of its further expansion into the UK distribution market.
